As a technician, you will work closely with the director and design team to implement the seasonal curriculum, refine individual member techniques, and clean choreographed phrases to ensure a cohesive and high-level production.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Instruction

  • Lead specialized saber blocks focusing on fundamental skills: hilt/blade spins, flourishes, and varied toss releases.
  • Correct individual body and posture to ensure all members achieve a uniform “look” during equipment phrases.
  • Break down complex choreography into manageable counts for students of varying skill levels.

Rehearsal Management

  • Assist in the “cleaning” process by identifying and correcting synchronization issues within the saber line.
  • Provide constructive, real-time feedback during full-ensemble runs and sectional rehearsals.
  • Collaborate with the design team to make minor adjustments to choreography if necessary for student success or visual clarity.

Mentorship & Safety

  • Foster a positive, disciplined, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Monitor equipment maintenance and ensure students are handling sabers safely during high-velocity maneuvers.
  • Act as a professional role model, upholding the values and standards of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Previous experience performing in a competitive winter guard or drum corps ensemble, specifically within a weapon line a plus.
  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of standard saber vocabulary and the ability to demonstrate advanced tosses and transitions with clarity.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to explain abstract movement concepts in concrete terms.
  • Availability: Must be available for weekend rehearsals and scheduled competitions throughout the winter season.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during rehearsals.
  • Ability to demonstrate physical movement and equipment maneuvers.
  • Comfort working in gymnasium environments with high noise levels.

Benefits

  • Opportunity to gain instructional experience within a competitive performing arts circuit.
  • Networking opportunities with professional designers and educators.
  • The chance to contribute to the growth and confidence of young performers.
